    The mission of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University is to transform human healthcare and the environment by emulating the way nature builds.     The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks a research assistant to aid our biostasis research program’s computer-assisted drug design team. The technician will work closely with the design team to experimentally validate new compounds in established biochemical assays. The candidate will organize and coordinate experimental techniques and lab tasks among team members. This position also allows the candidate to carry out microbiology and biochemistry experiments in collaboration with other team members including any necessary microscopy and cell assay analyses. These responsibilities will require developing and validating experimental protocols, organizing and assisting in collaborative efforts, and carrying out routine laboratory maintenance and procedures. In addition, general laboratory responsibilities are required, such as maintaining budgets, equipment, supplies, and reporting laboratory results.

    The candidate will also help write research reports, patent applications, presentations, and publications, providing critical data, figures, or information for grant and patent submissions. Additionally, the candidate will work with members of the Wyss Institute in pursuit of the Institute’s entrepreneurial mission. The candidate will contribute to the Wyss Institute culture of community and collaboration.

    Basic Qualifications

    College background in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, biomedical engineering, or related field required. At least one year of biochemical lab research or related experience required. Education may count towards years of experience.

    Additional Qualifications

    A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field is preferred. Good written and oral communication skills. The candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and be able to take initiative with attention to detail.The candidate should be a clear communicator with excellent organization and time management skills. They should have the ability to be self-directed and willing to learn relevant biological fundamentals and advance their understanding of data science.
